John Havens Senior Consultant

John Havens is a Senior Consultant with American Business Development Group an internationally respected, full-spectrum business development consulting firm, now representing a diverse list of over fifty prominent U.S. and international businesses. American Business Development Group enjoys a reputation as the largest business development firm in the United States which specializes in the re-equipping and modernization of the United States Armed Forces. The firm has facilitated more than $680,000,000 in “new found sales” for client companies in the last year and historically each year for the last four years.

Mr. Havens has enjoyed dual civilian and military careers. His civilian career encompasses 36 years as a Professional Engineer, including engineering research and development, executive-level advisory services, construction design and management thereof, and various administrative positions. His military career comprises 37 years from a second lieutenant on active duty with the U.S. Army to Adjutant General of the Missouri National Guard. His dual career experience has developed his management abilities in both the civilian and military world.

His civilian education and professional licenses are a BS, Civil Engineering, University of Missouri-Rolla; Registered Professional Engineer, licensed in the state of Missouri; and a Registered Land Surveyor, licensed in the state of Missouri. Since his retirement from military service in 2001, he has served as the Managing Member of his own consulting firm (The Havens Group, LLC).

Mr. Havens' military career culminated in his service as the Adjutant General of the Missouri National Guard. He was responsible to the Governor of the State of Missouri for the Army National Guard, Air National Guard, State Emergency Management and the Civil Air Patrol. This consisted of 10,800 Army and Air Guard personnel and 1,250 federal and state employees. The combined budget for operations within his area of responsibility exceeded 300 million dollars annually. His duties included: personnel and financial management; coordination of activities with active Army and Air Force personnel and meetings with Pentagon personnel; and performance of work in 14 foreign countries.

Prior to his tenure as the Adjutant General, he served as the Assistant Adjutant General for the Missouri National Guard. His responsibilities included personnel and financial management for the 7,500 members of the Missouri Army National Guard; management of the environmental, building construction and maintenance programs, as well as training programs for the Missouri Army National Guard.

Prior to his tenure as the Assistant Adjutant General for the Missouri National Guard, he maintained a professional engineering firm, where we worked on both public and private sector engineering projects. His was the key contributing factor in the financial and operational successes of several small businesses in their efforts to perform under Federal and state government contracts.

In his earlier professional career, Mr. Havens also served as the Chief of the Engineering Plans and Services Division, Directorate of Public Works at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. His duties included supervising an engineering staff responsible for engineering, planning, and construction for Fort Leonard Wood. The staff consisted of 14 engineers and architects with supporting technicians and administrative personnel.
